Arran is a relatively new distillery opening in June 1995. Situated at Lochranza in the north of th Isle of Arran. The distillery was the brainchild of Harold Currie, he wanted Arran whisky to be different from many of the other big peaty  Island whiskies it is therefore light gentle and soft.

This bottling has benifited fromm being  ‘finished’ in a selection of Madeira wine casks sourced from an artisan producer of this fortifed wine from the island of Madeira some 800km south-west of Portugal. This results in a rich sweet Single Malt, full of complexity and quality.

Taste Rating Guide

1 - Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan

2 - Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn

3 - A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan

4 - A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
