Benromach is situated in the town of Forres on Speyside. It was originally founded in 1898, but was closed by its then owner United Distillers in 1983. The Distillery was saved by the Urquart family who also own the legendary independent malt whisky bottlers Gordon and MacPhail. They spent some time renovating the distillery and eventually reopened it in 1998, 100 years after the original opening

This bottling has first been matured in first fill ex-bourbon casks then for the last 18 months of its maturation it has been in finished in casks from the Hermitage Appellation d'Origine Controlee, in the northern Rhone region of France.

Taste Rating Guide

1 - Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan

2 - Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn

3 - A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan

4 - A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
