Benromach is situated in the town of Forres on Speyside. It was originally founded in 1898, but was closed by its then owner United Distillers in 1983. The Distillery was saved by the Urquart family who also own the legendary independent malt whisky bottlers Gordon and MacPhail. They spent some time renovating the distillery and eventually reopened it in 1998,100 years after the original opening.

This bottling benefits from spending the last part of its maturation in Cissac wine casks. Chateau Cissac is in the Madoc region of France. Dates back to 1769, owned by the Vialard family. They produce a big bold red mainly using Cabernet Sauvignon grapes.

Taste Rating Guide

1 - Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan

2 - Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn

3 - A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan

4 - A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
