Teeling Whiskey - "Dare to be different"

Owned by a couple of great guys Jack and Stephan Teeling their Dad John Teeling started Cooley Distillery, Co.Louth in 1987.

The Teeling Whiskey Company was founded by Jack in 2012, his brother Stephan joined in 2013. The distillery, a 10 million euro project, is situated in Dublin, in an area of town called “The Liberties” once a centre for distilling and where Walter Teeling an ancestor of Jack’s had a distillery in the 18th century. The new distillery opened June 2015, the first to be built in Dublin for 125 years. They use traditional triple distillation with an Intermediate still, just like Auchentoshan.

This botting is the first they have released made totally in Dublin at the new distillery. They use a mash bill of 50% malted barley and 50% un-malted barley, triple distilled and matured in a combination of American Oak Virgin, ex-Bourbon and ex-sherry cask.

The whiskey is sweet and elegant, gental with a lot of tropical fruit and citrus flavour. Exceptional considering it's relative youth.

Taste Rating Guide

1 - Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan

2 - Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn

3 - A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan

4 - A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
