The distillery is situated on the edge of Charlestown of Aberlour, a lovely little town on the banks of the river Spey, also home to Walkers Shortbread. The distillery was founded in 1826 and is today owned by Chivas Brothers who are part of Pernod Richard a French Company.  France is the biggest Export market of Scotch Whisky in volume and Aberlour is very popular single Malt in France, and is now the 6thbestselling single malt Worldwide.

This bottling, the name means Rareb cask in Galic, is a small batch run, matured in European oak ex-sherry casks, American Oak ex-sherry casks and American ex-Bourbon casks. Also bottled at 48%, and we assume that this means it's un-chilfiltered.

Taste Rating Guide

1 - Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan

2 - Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn

3 - A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan

4 - A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
