Initially, the company manufactured Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL). They constructed the current distillery in 1987, situating it on a four-acre site in Kambipura.
Amrut Single Malt Whisky was first released in Glasgow in August 2004. After its initial launch, it rapidly expanded its presence across numerous countries worldwide, culminating in the long-awaited Indian launch in February 2010. The barley responsible for crafting this whisky thrives in the foothills of the Himalayas, while the distillery, situated 3000 feet above sea level, both produces and matures the whisky. Amrut whisky is unchillfiltered, therefore retaining all the natural oils, making this the finest alcoholic beverage from the subcontinent.
Official Tasting Notes
Nose - On the nose there is unusually dry peat, not dissimilar to peat reek absorbed by an old leather armchair. A hint of citrus.
Taste - Despite the nose, the immediate sensation is one of being caressed by molassed sugar. Followed then by a ratching up of the peat notes. As they get more forceful, so the experience becomes that little bit drier and spicier, though not without the molasses refusing to give way.
Finish - You can tell the quality of the distillate and the barrels it has been matured in by the crystalline depth to the finish. Everything is clear on the palate and the butterscotch vanillas wrap the phenols for a comfortable and clean finale.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
