Hunter Laing & Co., an independent, family-owned bottling company, established Ardnahoe Distillery on the northeast coast of
Islay. Opening in 2019, it marked the first new distillery on Islay in over a decade.
Ardnahoe, guided by Master Distiller Jim McEwan, combines traditional craft with modern techniques, using pure water from Loch Ardnahoe. Known for its peated malts with classic Islay smokiness, Ardnahoe stands out for its use of rare worm tub condensers. This slow-cools the spirit for richer flavours and a fuller mouthfeel. The distillery also extends fermentation to enhance complexity in the whisky’s profile.
Hunter Laing is a family-owned independent bottler of Scotch whisky, based in Glasgow. Founded in 2013 by Stewart Laing and his sons, Andrew and Scott, the company specialises in selecting and bottling rare and high-quality single malt and blended Scotch whiskies.
Sculpted by the elements, Islay's breathtaking Bholsa caves on its rugged north coast are a rich reward for those who venture off the beaten track. Ardnahoe Bholsa has been matured predominantly in Oloroso sherry casks. Bottled with no artificial colouring and no chill-filtration.
Official Tasting Notes
Red fruits, walnuts, orange zest and peat smoke on the nose. Raisins, dates and ripe plums on the palate underpinned by Islay peat lead into a long, peppery finish.
