William Teacher & Sons acquired Glendronach in 1920, integrating its whisky into their blends. In the 1960s, the distillery modernised by installing steam heating and expanding from two to four stills. After being mothballed in 1996, Glendronach reopened in 2002 under Chivas Brothers. The BenRiach Distillery Company acquired it in 2008 and revitalised its focus on high-quality single malts, before selling it to Brown-Forman in 2016.
This whisky is rich and fruity, benefiting from maturation in European Oak ex-Sherry Casks. This 15 years old has some Oloroso Sherry Cask matured whisky and some Pedro Ximinez Sherry Cask matured whisky. A little sweeter whisky, like good quality chocolate, with rich dried fruit flavours.
In flavour, the expression offers sumptuous notes of dark fruits, rich chocolate and manuka honey with an enveloping, memorable finish worthy of this monumental malt’s history. A luxurious sherried Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, bottled at 46% ABV, natural in colour.
Official Tasting Notes
Colour - Antique Bronze.
Nose - An intoxicating burst of maraschino cherry, ripe bramble and dark chocolate mint with hints of orange bitters and walnut liqueur.
Palate - Honey-glazed apricot and ripe fig with a crescendo of black cherry, angelica and muscovado.
Finish - Long and enveloping finish with dark manuka honey, herbal bitters and dark chocolate.
Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
