Glengoyne Distillery sits on the edge of the Campsie Fells in the Southern Highlands. A light bodied sophisticated dram, Glengoyne is a perfect Aperitif, and great for the summer. Although founded in 1833, it is obvious to anyone visiting that the little glen of Dumgoyne, that houses the distillery, is perfect for illicit distilling. The close proximity to Glasgow would have given the smugglers a ready made market.
Originally owned by George Connell, he built the distillery and took out a lease on the surrounding land, which was a warehouse was built upon. Today, the small family distillers Ian McLeod & Sons own the distillery. They also hold ownership of Tamdhu distillery and are in the process of rebuilding Rosebank Distillery. It is a small distillery with 3 stills, 1 wash still and 2 small spirit stills. They operate a long fermentation, and the stills are run slowly, no peat is used in the malting. This adds up to a delicate dram.
This botting benefits from spending 21 years in 1st fill ex- Oloroso Sherry Casks - aged to perfection, fruity and rich. Notes of Christmas cake, honey, and rich fruit – with a long cinnamon finish. Matured exclusively in hand-selected sherry casks for 21 years. Perfect after dinner or, frankly, anytime.
Official Tasting Notes
Colour - Deep copper, meandering legs.
Nose - Red apples, spicy strudel, toffee, sherry and dried fruits. Christmas cake in a glass.
Palate - Lots of sherry, honey, oak with a developing aromatic sensation. Ends with a heavenly cinnamon nip.
Finish - Long, sherry, spicy, warm and dry.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
