The Hearach is from
Harris Distillery, founded in 2015 in Tabert on the Isle of Harris. The first legal distillery to be built on the island, their first single malt whisky was released in Autumn 2023. Alongside the whisky, they also make a gin.
The Hearach is the first, historic single malt whisky from this island distillery. Much like the iconic Harris Tweed, the hands of island people intricately weave this first historic whisky, creating an elegant spirit with complexity and character. This special connection between people and place continues to this day with every drop of The Hearach created by Isle of Harris hands in the Outer Hebrides.
Created from a cask combination of Heaven Hill, Buffalo Trace, Oloroso and Fino.
Official Tasting Notes (from Steve Brown, Tarbert, Isle of Harris)
“I'm originally from Glasgow so the aroma of peat smoke is a very island thing for me now I live here. I get spices on the nose and a lovely heat to it sipping it neat. There's a barbeque-like smoke on the palate too and crisp, sharp apple flavours, like the fruit we used to pick from trees on the way home from school. A bit of water really opens it up and I'm reminded of sweet Scottish 'tablet'. I always make my own tablet, my Granny from Cork in Ireland taught me how. Overall, it's very smooth, smoky, sweet and quite refreshing."
