Originally owned by George Connell, he built the distillery and took out a lease on the surrounding land, which was a warehouse was built upon. Today, the small family distillers Ian McLeod & Sons own the distillery. They also hold ownership of Tamdhu distillery and are in the process of rebuilding Rosebank Distillery. It is a small distillery with 3 stills, 1 wash still and 2 small spirit stills. They operate a long fermentation, and the stills are run slowly, no peat is used in the malting. This adds up to a delicate dram.
Glengoyne Legacy Chapter 3 matures in re-fill European Oak Oloroso Sherry Casks and re-fill American Oak ex-Bourbon casks.
Official Tasting Notes
Nose - Signature Glengoyne deep sherry notes which accompany the distinctive cinnamon sticks and vanilla aromas. A very pleasing combination of mixed berry jam and apple strudel intertwine revealing some pear.
Palate - A rich luxurious body that’s satisfyingly chewy with warm boozy raisins combining with spiced buns slowly giving way to tarte tatin and smooth cream sherry.
Finish - Light and fruity, which deepens with hints of pineapple, dried fruits, dark chocolate and lingering spice finish are the aromatic ‘legacy’ of this wonderful dram before you reach for the bottle and go back for more.
Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
