Constantly innovating and evolving, Glenfiddich became the first distillery to open a visitor centre in 1969. In 1991, they released the first 50 year old Single Malt Scotch Whisky. Today, Glenfiddich remains a family-owned business, operated by the fifth generation of William Grant's descendant. It continues to be one of the best selling Single Malt Scotch Whiskies in the world.
Glenfiddich 15 years old has plenty of sherry cask influence. For this bottling they use the Solera method. The distillery chooses the casks, predominantly ex-Sherry casks but also including ex-Bourbon and new casks, after they have matured for 15 years. They then go into a large wooden vat - the Solera Vat - which is always a least half full so never dries out and gives more complex flavours each year. The whisky is allowed to marry here for a few months before bottling.
