Created by Hunter Laing, Scarabus is an
Islay Single Malt for the curious and detail-oriented. It offers a bold and honest whisky with a touch of mystery. The brand evokes a sense of discovery with the tagline "only those who seek shall find" and the enigmatic symbols on its label. Inspired by Islay native John Francis Campbell, who invented the sunshine recorder and collected Celtic folklore, the design reflects a rich heritage.
Scarabus, named after a mystical area on the Isle of Islay, translates to "a rocky place" in Old Norse. It dates back to the 13th century. They bottle each expression without colouring or chill-filtration.
Hunter Laing is a family-owned independent bottler of Scotch whisky, based in Glasgow. Founded in 2013 by Stewart Laing and his sons, Andrew and Scott, the company specialises in selecting and bottling rare and high-quality single malt and blended Scotch whiskies. The company also owns and operates Islay's newest distillery, Ardnahoe, who's inaugural release came in 2024.
Official Tasting Notes
Islay peat smoke and sea salt on the nose, followed by warming leather notes, stewed rhubarb and a wonderful vanilla sweetness in the mouth, leading to a rich lingering finish.
