Tomintoul Distillery is located near the village of Tomintoul, which is the highest village in the Scottish Highlands. Situated within the Glenlivet estate in the Speyside region, and in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. Established in 1964 by Hay & Macleod and W. & S. Strong, today the distillery is owned by Angus Dundee Distillers, which acquired it in 2000.
The area surrounding the distillery is one of astounding natural beauty. This natural environment combined with the fresh mountain air of the Cairngorms, the soft, pure water from the Ballantruan spring and the tall and mighty stills of Tomintoul, all contribute to creating this exceptionally smooth and well-balanced whisky.
Master Distiller, Robert Fleming, who is a fourth generation Speyside distiller, has been the custodian of Tomintoul for more than 30 years. Robert and his team handcraft every drop of Tomintoul Single Malt, using traditional production techniques that stretch back hundreds of years.
Tomintoul Peated has been distilled using peated malted barley to impart a distinctive smoky flavour. Matured in the finest American oak ex-bourbon barrels, this bottling retains the core approachable, sweet and fruity characteristics associated with Tomintoul Single Malts but with the addition of a subtle campfire smoke.
Official Tasting Notes
Nose - Sweet and sooty with aromas of campfire smoke, ginger buscuits, coffee grounds and smoked meats with a subtle nettle freshness.
Palate - Layers of hazelnut, smoky bacon and treacle toffees. Mingled with toasted oats, peat smoke and sweet liquorice with lemon zest highlights.
Finish - Nutty and smoky with notes of coffee cake, bell pepper, roasted pecans and mellow spices.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
