White Peak Distillery was founded in 2016 and is located in Ambergate, Derbyshire. The brainchild of Max and Claire Vaughan, it is Derbyshire’s first full-scale craft distillery, with a proud focus on the unique Derbyshire provenance and heritage. The building itself was an old wire works and is now part of a UNESCO world heritage site. They released their first single malt whisky in 2022. In addition to this, they produce Shining Cliff gin, a cask-aged rum, and the 1876 Single Malt Cocktail, all of which they mature, bottle, and label on site. As our closest distillery, we are proud to have been a supporter of White Peak since they were first established.
Wire Works Bourbon Barrel is a landmark moment for the team at White Peak! This release is their first ever ex-bourbon barrel only full maturation, featuring some of the oldest casks in the warehouse. Considered a relatively ‘inactive’ cask type, ex-bourbon barrels shine a light on a distillery’s unique spirit character. Ex-bourbon maturation reveals the true essence of the spirit, laying bare the core of a distillery’s character. The barrels for this release come from long-term partners at Heaven Hills Distillery in Kentucky. All first-fill ex-bourbon barrels delivered door-to-door.
Official Tasting Notes
Nose - Vanilla cheesecake, white chocolate and fruit salad sweets, with lemon curd, candied ginger, peaches and cream.
Palate - Custard creams, lemon zest and icing sugar, with chocolate covered peanuts, honey and ginger bread.
Finish - Apple crumble and murray mints, with lime pickle and white pepper.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
