Auchroisk Distillery was founded in 1974 by Justerini & Brooks (J&B), a subsidiary of International Distillers & Vintners (IDV), which later became part of Diageo. The distillery is located near Mulben in Banffshire, in the heart of the Speyside whisky region.
Constructed to meet the rising demand for whisky, particularly for blending purposes, Auchroisk's primary role was to supply malt whisky for the J&B blend, one of the most popular blended Scotch whiskies globally. Designed with modern production techniques, the distillery reflected the advancements in distillation technology of the 1970s. They first bottled a single malt in 1986 as 'The Singleton of Auchroisk'.
Hunter Laing is a family-owned independent bottler of Scotch whisky, based in Glasgow. Founded in 2013 by Stewart Laing and his sons, Andrew and Scott, the company specialises in selecting and bottling rare and high-quality single malt and blended Scotch whiskies. The company also owns and operates Islay's newest distillery, Ardnahoe, who's inaugural release came in 2024.
The First Editions range features single barrel whiskies bottled at natural cask strength, with no colouring or chill filtration. The team at Hunter Laing select each cask for its unique character and collectability, much like a rare literary work. Label colours highlight the whisky region, and they number every bottle individually.
This Single Cask Auchroisk bottling was distilled in 2010, and bottled at 14 years old. The spirit matured in a Red Wine Barrel (HL21867), producing 210 bottles.
A rich nose of maple syrup, dark chocolate, and red berries. Green apples, salted caramel, and stewed fruits on the palate lead into a long, lingering finish with sweet spices.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
