Woodford Reserve is small batch, Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey, produced in Versailles, Woodford Country. The distillery, formerly known as the Labot & Graham Distillery, underwent a renaming to become the Woodford Reserve Distillery in 2004. It is Kentucky's smallest distillery, producing 40-50 barrels a day and is a National Historic Landmark. Whisky production started at the site in 1812, but it wasn't until 1996 that the Woodford Reserve brand was introduced. The Brown-Forman Company, headquartered in Louisville, currently owns the company.
The whisky is made from a mix of copper pot stills, produced at the distillery, and column still spirits, from the Brown Forman Distillery in Shively, Kentucky. They still use the mix of grain in American fashion. The mash bill is 72% corn, 18% rye and 10% barley malt. This recipe balances the sweetness of corn with the spice of rye, and the nuttiness of malt to build the base for a most flavourful bourbon.
The perfectly balanced taste of this Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is comprised of more than 200 detectable flavour notes, from bold grain and wood, to sweet aromatics, spice, and fruit and floral notes.

Colour - Clean, brilliant honey amber.
Nose - Heavy with rich dried fruit, hints of mint and oranges covered with a dusting of cocoa. Faint vanilla and tobacco spice.
Taste - Rich, chewy, rounded and smooth, with complex citrus, cinnamon and cocoa. Toffee, caramel, chocolate and spice notes abound.
Finish - Silky smooth, almost creamy at first with a long, warm satisfying tail.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
