Aberdeenshire, it's known for its rich agricultural landscape. Originally founded by brothers John and Alexander Manson, the distillery has seen various ownership changes over the years, with Beam Suntory currently running the company.
Historically, Glen Garioch used lightly peated barley, giving its whiskies a subtle smokiness. In recent years, the distillery has shifted towards unpeated barley, focusing on other flavour characteristics. The distillery draws water from the nearby Silent Spring, distills the spirit in traditional copper pot stills, and ages it in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks.
Hunter Laing is a family-owned independent bottler of Scotch whisky, based in Glasgow. Founded in 2013 by Stewart Laing and his sons, Andrew and Scott, the company specialises in selecting and bottling rare and high-quality single malt and blended Scotch whiskies. The company also owns and operates Islay's newest distillery, Ardnahoe, who's inaugural release came in 2024.
The First Editions range features single barrel whiskies bottled at natural cask strength, with no colouring or chill filtration. The team at Hunter Laing select each cask for its unique character and collectability, much like a rare literary work. Label colours highlight the whisky region, and they number every bottle individually.
This Single Cask Glen Garioch bottling was distilled in 2008, and bottled at 16 years old. The spirit matured in a Wine Hogshead (HL21389), producing 269 bottles.
