The Harvey brothers established Bruichladdich Distillery on the shore of Loch Indaal on the Isle of
Islay in 1881. Rémy Cointreau currently owns the distillery. In contrast to many neighboring distilleries, Bruichladdich produces a lighter and softer unpeated whisky. Alongside the Bruichladdich range, they also produce Port Charlotte, a heavily peated range, and Octomore, an extremely heavily peated range. They style themselves as Progressive Hebridean Distillers, and are always looking for new ideas and initiatives.
This is Bruichladdich's signature bottling, therefore representing the definitive expression of the distillery. Matured for a decade on Islay, The Classic Laddie showcases the classic, floral, and elegant house style. Crafted exclusively from 100% Scottish barley, Classic Laddie undergoes meticulous trickle distillation, therefore ensuring it remains non-chill filtered and free of added coloring.
Official Tasting Notes
Colour - Sunlight on early summer barley fields.
Nose - Opening with barley sugar and a hint of mint before leading into the most wonderful notes of freshly cut wild flowers; buttercup, daisy, meadowsweet, myrtle, primrose and cherry blossom. The cleanliness of the spirit is remarkable. More aromas rise from the glass, including little zephyrs of spindrift and sea pinks, reminding you that this spirit is matured exclusively beside the sea. With the addition of a little water, caramelised fruits drift onto the scene; lemon drops and honey, tangerine and tablet.
Palate - Refined and refreshing, the sweet oak and the barley arriving together sending the taste buds into raptures. The fruits from distillation subsequently drift in on an Atlantic breeze and delicately pop on the tongue like champagne bubbles. This exquisite combination of ripe green fruit, brown sugar, and sweet malt certainly brings a harmonious closure to the tasting experience.
Finish - Unforgettable - this whisky brings warmth to the heart and soul.
