Aberargie Distillery was founded in 2017 by the Morrison family, in Aberargie,
Perthshire. Set on a 300-acre farm, the distillery grows its own Golden Promise barley on site, using it predominantly to craft its spirit. Although the whisky industry has largely moved away from this heritage variety in recent years, the team deliberately chose it for its distinctive flavour and reliable consistency. The 'barley to bottle' operation will mainly produce a rich, fruity, waxy whisky with the occasional peated release.
The Morrison family have been involved in the whisky business for many years. They previously owned Auchentoshan, Glen Garioch and Bowmore distilleries through their company, Morrison Bowmore Distillers. The family sold the company to Suntory in 1994 and stepped away from distilling, returning to the industry only when they opened Aberargie in 2017.
This is the Aberargie Inaugural Release - the very first bottling from the distillery.
They've crafted the spirit from 52% Golden Promise Barley and 48% Laureate Barley, growing all of it onsite. The Golden Promise prized for its rich, rounded flavour and historic significance in Scotch whisky, brings depth and texture. The Laureate Barley adds balance and clarity, contributing to a spirit that is both expressive and refined. Together, they form the foundation of Aberargie’s house character from the very first release.
The maturation has taken place in 50% first-fill Sherry Casks and 50% first-fill Bourbon Casks. The Bourbon Casks have been sourced directly from the USA, while the Oloroso and PX Sherry Casks are sourced directly from Miguel Martin in Spain.
