Amrut is an award winning Single Malt whisky hailing from India. JN Radhakrishna Rao Jagdale founded the distillery in Bangalore, Karnataka, in 1948. Initially, the company manufactured Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL). They constructed the current distillery in 1987, situating it on a four-acre site in Kambipura.
Amrut Single Malt Whisky was first released in Glasgow in August 2004. After its initial launch, it rapidly expanded its presence across numerous countries worldwide, culminating in the long-awaited Indian launch in February 2010. The barley responsible for crafting this whisky thrives in the foothills of the Himalayas, while the distillery, situated 3000 feet above sea level, both produces and matures the whisky. Amrut whisky is unchillfiltered, therefore retaining all the natural oils, making this the finest alcoholic beverage from the subcontinent.
Amrut presents this bottling of Indian Single Malt as a humble tribute to the Indian farmer who has grown this barley with care and affection. This is the signature product in Amrut's core range, a must-try for any connoisseur.
Official Tasting Notes
Nose - Distinctly confidant liquorice-bourbon notes on the nose with near perfect bitter-sweet balance. Burnt honeycomb and toffee also abound.
Taste - An outstanding richness and sheen to the enormous barley-oak sweetness. Again, there is a big bourbon cut to the cloth with all the liquorice and molassed sugar normally associated. However, the barley adds that extra dimension.
Finish - Long, wonderfully layered oak offering variations of a sweet dry theme. A touch silky with some cream toffee at the death.

1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
