The independent bottling company Adelphi Distillery owns
Ardnamurchan Distillery. Jamie Walker founded Adelphi in 1993, naming it after The Loch Katrine Adelphi Distillery, which operated from 1826 to 1932 before being demolished in 1971. In 2007, the decision to construct their distillery took shape, and the actual construction commenced in 2013. On 11th July 2014, they successfully produced their first spirit. Their first official single malt whisky was released in 2020. Located on the Ardnamurchan peninsula, north of the Isle of Mull, the distillery currently produces around 350,000 litres annually.
They were the first Scottish Distillery to adopt the use of blockchain technology, allowing you to trace the whiskies journey from field to bottle, by scanning the QR code on the bottle. From the outset, Ardnamurchan has emphasised environmental sustainability. They use renewable energy sourced locally – Hydro Electric and biomass boiler, using wood from renewable forest. Committed to minimising its carbon footprint, the distillery uses recycled materials, and source barley from local farms.
For this bottling of Ardnamurchan, the distillery filled bourbon casks in early 2018 with a roughly 60/40 ratio of unpeated to peated spirit. After several years, the whisky transferred to Madeira casks for two more years. Just before reaching seven years of age, the team vatted and bottled the casks. A yield of just under 19,000 bottles in this batch.
