Glendalough Distillery, founded in 2011 by a group of five friends passionate about reviving Irish craft distilling, is located in County Wicklow, Ireland. The founders aimed to revive Ireland’s rich distilling heritage while innovating with local ingredients and traditional methods. Meaning ‘Glen of Two Lakes’, it is situated in the Wicklow Mountains just south of Dublin. It began by producing poitín, Ireland’s original distilled spirit, before expanding into whiskey and gin. It styles itself as
Ireland’s first craft distillery.
Glendalough Wild Rose Irish Gin was originally created to honour Head Distiller Ciaran “Rowdy” Rooney’s mother, Rose, at his younger brother’s wedding following her passing.
Carefully tended flowers from Rose’s garden are vapour-distilled with wild roses and botanicals from the surrounding mountains to create the gin. After distillation, additional roses infuse the spirit, enhancing its floral flavours and giving it a distinctive pink hue.
