Glengoyne Distillery sits on the edge of the Campsie Fells in the Southern
Highlands. Although founded in 1833, it is obvious to anyone visiting that the little glen of Dumgoyne, that houses the distillery, is perfect for illicit distilling. The close proximity to Glasgow would have given the smugglers a ready made market.
Originally owned by George Connell, he built the distillery and took out a lease on the surrounding land, which the warehouse was built upon. Today, the small family distillers Ian McLeod & Sons own the distillery. This small distillery uses a long fermentation, runs its stills slowly, and avoids peat in the malting process.
Hunter Laing is a family-owned independent bottler of Scotch whisky, based in Glasgow. Founded in 2013 by Stewart Laing and his sons, Andrew and Scott, the company specialises in selecting and bottling rare and high-quality single malt and blended Scotch whiskies. The company also owns and operates Islay's newest distillery, Ardnahoe, who's inaugural release came in 2024.
The First Editions range features single barrel whiskies bottled at natural cask strength, with no colouring or chill filtration. The team at Hunter Laing select each cask for its unique character and collectability, much like a rare literary work. Label colours highlight the whisky region, and they number every bottle individually.
This Single Cask Glengoyne bottling was distilled in 2007, and bottled at 17 years old. The spirit matured in a Refill Butt (HL20293), producing 257 bottles.
This pale-gold coloured whisky has a mellow, woody nose with notes of oak and lemon zest. The palate is sweet yet savoury, with flavours of salted caramel and butterscotch. The palate is long with lingering heat and hints of white pepper.
