A visit to the Blue John mine in Castleton, Derbyshire in 1979 inspired the creation of this High Peak Liqueur, which launched twenty years later. It's made with caramel and vanilla flavours blended with Scotch whisky.
The recipe is based on a dish from the Peak District. The flavours reflect those used when miners extracted Blue John stone, featured on the label, near Castleton in the High Peak. Packaged in a cobalt blue frosted bottle with an ABV of 20%. This, along with the mouth watering vanilla flavour, means that it is very smooth and light to drink.
The High Peak Liqueur bottle label features the famous Blue John stone, a translucent semi-precious mineral banded in blue, red, purple and yellow. Mined near Castleton, it's the only place in the world where Blue John stone can be found. People have prized this precious stone for ornaments and jewellery since Roman times. In more recent years, the stone's been used for decoration in Windsor Castle, the White House and the Vatican.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
