Japan. Ichiro Akuto, the founder of Chichibu Distillery, acquired the land for the distillery in 2004, based in a region known for its excellent water quality and suitable climate for whisky production. Akuto comes from a family with a long history in the alcohol industry; his grandfather founded a sake brewery in 1941.
The Chichibu Distillery officially began operations in 2008, producing its first spirit in the February of that year. Ichiro Akuto’s vision was to produce high-quality, small-batch single malt whisky, utilising traditional methods combined with innovative approaches. During its early years, Chichibu focused on laying down stock and experimenting with various cask types and maturation processes. Their first Single Malt release took place in 2011.
Ichiro Akuto crafts Ichiro's Malt & Grain, traveling the world to find the perfect casks for his blend. Alongside this, he also produces the renowned Chichibu Single Malt. A World Blended Whisky.
This is a complex and harmonious blend. Featuring whiskies from America, Canada, Scotland, and Ireland in addition to whiskies from Chichibu Distillery. The result is an expressive and balanced whisky that features notes of malted barley, apples, and subtle cinnamon, finishing with pears and a whisper of milk chocolate.
