Jameson whiskey is one of the most iconic Irish brands, distilled at the Middleton distillery located in county Cork in the southwest of Ireland. Founded by John Jameson in 1780, the brand has been going strong for over 200 years. Jameson is triple distilled (a process not exclusive to Ireland or even Irish whiskies, but certainly a technique associated with he county’s style).
Jameson Cask mates aims to highlight the influences in flavour gained when you use different casks in this case Stout casks. Casks were swapped with a local craft beer brewery and soon Jameson whiskey was filled into casks which had previously held Stout beer.
Tasting Notes.
Nose- Green apples and pears, with a twist of lime zest. Mild pot still spices appear, deepening from green tea to hazelnut and milk chocolate.
Palate- The initial sweet mouth coating typical of the Irish pot still use, is quickly complemented by the subtle touch of hops and cocoa beans from the beer cask finish.
Finish- Long and sweet with milk chocolate and butterscotch.
Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
