In the 19th century, the distillery experienced significant growth and became a major player in the Irish whiskey industry. However, like many other distilleries, Kilbeggan faced challenges such as economic downturns, changing market conditions, and the impact of events like the Irish War of Independence and Prohibition in the United States.
The distillery went through periods of closure and reopening in the 20th century, with production ceasing in 1957. In 1982, the Cooley Distillery was established nearby, and it eventually took over the Kilbeggan Distillery in the early 1990s. Cooley Distillery invested in the restoration of the distillery, preserving its historic features while modernising its facilities. The Kilbeggan Distillery officially reopened in 2007, and it now operates as a working distillery.
Kilbeggan distills its traditional Irish Whiskey using the old-fashioned double-distillation method, preserving more flavour while upholding the classic Irish smoothness.

Nose - Clean fresh, hints of citrus lemon honey and barley.
Taste - Traditional Irish taste. Smooth silky sweet honey comes through with spicy malt undertone.
Finish - Satisfying malty finish.

1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
