Founded in 1815 by Donald and Alexander Johnston, it is very much a love it or hate it whisky having a very medicinal peaty and smoky flavour. Beam Suntory currently owns Laphroaig, and the distillery produces over three million litres of alcohol each year.
It proudly holds the Royal Warrant of King Charles III, personally bestowed upon it during his visit to the distillery in 1994 when he held the title of Prince of Wales.
Described as their 'most laid-back expression', Laphroaig Oak Select is a marriage of casks. The Master Blender has created this single malt by selecting five different casks, across a range of ages. This mellow balance of flavours opens up the world of Laphroaig for every drinker.
The maturation begins in ex-Bourbon casks, eventually drawing portions destined for four characterful casks - new American Oak, Quarter Casks, PX casks and European Oloroso casks. Finally, these distinctive liquids are married together to create a whisky that's easy to enjoy - but with a complexity that delights.
Laphroaig Oak Select is a subtle blending of peat reek, glowing embers of oak and a lasting sweetness. It is lighter in flavour, but still endowed with the distinctive Laphroaig qualities. Loved for its versatile, smooth profile, this is an easy-going summertime dram.

Colour - Sparkling gold appearance with layered tones.
Nose - Forward peat smoke followed quickly by ripe red fruits.
Palate - Sweet at first, followed by peat smoke and dashes of ash and seaweed.
Finish - Long finish with lingering floral notes. Touches of marzipan and lime.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
