Linkwood Distillery was founded in 1821 by Peter Brown in Elgin, Scotland. Peter's son, William Brown, modernised and expanded the distillery in 1868, enhancing its reputation. Today, much of their whisky goes into blends like Johnnie Walker and White Horse, but Linkwood also enjoys a dedicated following for its light, floral, and fruity single malts, upholding its long-standing reputation for quality.
A whole garden of fruit and flower scents in a smooth, long, complex yet wholly integrated Speyside of utter distinction. This 12-year-old single malt whisky has a rich and oily mouthfeel with nutty, cereal notes and an aromatic and dry finish.
Official Tasting Notes
Colour - Old gold.
Body - Mouth-filling, smooth and medium-bodied.
Nose - The first impression is of fresh soft-fruits (but indistinguishable), with a hint of vanilla in the background. Then light cigar-box notes are perceptible, and a faint hint of expensive ladies' perfume. The whole effect is civilized, complex and tightly integrated. With water, it opens into carnations and lavender, with a whiff of perfumed smoke. There are traces of juicy green sticks, then cedar-wood, with undercurrents of pomander or dried orange peel.
Palate - Mouth-filling and smooth. Sweet, overall. Viscous, but fresh and clean: a pleasant acidity helps to maintain this.
Finish - Cedar notes emerge in the finish, which is long.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
