Mortlach is Dufftown's oldest distillery dating back to 1823. James Findlater founded Mortlach as the first legal distillery in Dufftown. The distillery has changed hands several times over the years, and today, Diageo, the world’s largest drinks company, owns Mortlach.
The distillery has six stills - three wash stills and three spirit stills - all different sizes. This gives them the ability to make slightly different styles of spirit. Mortlach whisky has a strong reputation with both drinkers of single malts and blenders due to the high quality of spirit distilled there.
Formed in 1988 by Andrew and Brian Symington, the Signatory Vintage Scotch Whisky Company offers a great range of small batch independent bottlings. They bottle one cask at a time, capitalising on the unique colour and flavour characteristics of each individual cask. They source all-natural malts from the best distilleries in Scotland, selecting the best single batches and bottling only the finest casks within those batches.
This bottling of Mortlach is edition #84 of the Signatory Vintage 100 Proof range. Distilled in 2016 and bottled in 2026, this 10 year old bottling has been finished in 1st fill Pedro Ximénez Butts.
Bottled at 57.1% ABV, an un-chillfiltered single malt, with no added colouring.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
