Stuart and Wilma Nickerson, along with Frank and Debbie Stran, established The Shetland Distilling Company. They share a passion for producing top quality products in local communities and to also create the finest expressions of these products, in the distillery on Unst.
The makers of Shetland Reel gin carefully select local botanicals to craft their distinctive flavour. This is their award-winning 'Original' craft gin, which affectionately captures the nature of the island. The signature recipe uses the sweet scented leaves of apple mint grown and harvested on Unst, giving a unique authentic flavour of Shetland.
Official Tasting Notes
The nose has a hint of juniper with a subtle mix of spices and citrus. The initial palate has juniper, mixed spice, sweetness with a citrus tang and a refreshing hint of mint at the end. The finish is clean and fresh.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
