White Peak Distillery was founded in 2016 and is located in Ambergate, Derbyshire. The brainchild of Max and Claire Vaughan, it is Derbyshire’s first full-scale craft distillery, with a proud focus on the unique Derbyshire provenance and heritage. The building itself was an old wire works and is now part of a UNESCO world heritage site. They released their first single malt whisky in 2022. In addition to this, they produce Shining Cliff gin, a cask-aged rum, and the 1876 Single Malt Cocktail, all of which they mature, bottle, and label on site. As our closest distillery, we are proud to have been a supporter of White Peak since they were first established.
Wire Works Alter Ego reveals an exciting alternative flavour profile of the core lightly-peated house style. The distillation process for this spirit features alternate cut points compared to previous Wire Works whisky releases. Bringing forward richer fruit flavours and a different take to its background light peat – extending the personality of Wire Works Whisky.
In addition to the change in distillers’ cut points, the casks used for the selected vatting lean more on first ex-bourbon than in previous releases. This emphasises the fruit notes in the spirit along with a bolder range of vanilla. Alter Ego, bottled at 51.5% ABV, maintains the balance of higher strength and approachability which has characterised previous releases of Wire Works Whisky. Blending American first-fill ex-bourbon with White Peak's signature STR Casks creates a distinctive vatting.

Nose - Lemon meringue, sherbet, fresh ginger, vanilla pastry, fruit salad sweets, caramel cream.
Palate - Cream soda, honey, light caramel, gingerbread, mango, malted milk biscuits.
Finish - Caramac, gooseberries, short bread, light peat.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
