White Peak Distillery was founded in 2016 and is located in Ambergate, Derbyshire. The brainchild of Max and Claire Vaughan, it is Derbyshire’s first full-scale craft distillery, with a proud focus on the unique Derbyshire provenance and heritage. The building itself was an old wire works and is now part of a UNESCO world heritage site.
They released their first single malt whisky in 2022. In addition to this, they produce Shining Cliff gin, a cask-aged rum, and the 1876 Single Malt Cocktail, all of which they mature, bottle, and label on site. As our closest distillery, we are proud to have been a supporter of White Peak since they were first established.
Wire Works Pineau des Charentes is a dual maturation of White Peak's lightly peated spirit. Initially matured in first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels and finished in a 500 litre cask which previously held the namesake French aperitif.
To make Pineau des Charentes, producers combine young, unaged Cognac eaux-de-vie with the fresh juice of crushed grapes, also known as ‘must’. After spending time in casks, the result is similar to a fortified wine.
In developing this single malt, the team at White Peak have created a rich and elegant whisky, which is bursting with dried fruits and nuts, and layered with notes of stone fruit.
A limited release of 598 bottles.
Official Tasting Notes
Sweet and decadent, with stone fruits, dried fruits and chocolate.
Nose - Peaches and cream, orange marmalade, icing sugar, vanilla cheesecake, milk chocolate, sultanas, cinnamon, almonds and apple pie.
Palate - White chocolate, cinder toffee, strawberry laces, rhubarb, dates, crème anglaise, honey, lavender, dried apricots and lemon curd.
Finish - Candied ginger, wine gums, butter icing and marzipan.
Limited to 2 bottles per customer.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
