Port Askaig is a small village located on the north east coast of Islay. Nestled on ancient granite rocks along side the Sound Of Islay channel, Port Askaig is the gateway to Islay. From century old invaders and traders of the past to the tourists, whisky explorers and Isle lovers of today.
Named after this special place, Port Askaig Islay Single Malt Whisky was introduced in 2009 by independent bottlers Elixir Distillers. Despite its smaller size, Elixir Distillers has gained global recognition at the International Wine and Spirits Competition for its contributions to the industry. Port Askaig selects casks meticulously matured and blended by Master Blender, Oliver Chilton, with each expression crafted to capture the essence of Islay’s beauty, whisky, and lifestyle. This elegant, balanced, and refined liquid offers flavours from bonfire smoke and peaty bogs, to soft, salty sea air.
Skilful blending of Single Malt Whisky matured in a selection of casks created this intriguing, gentle yet distinctly Islay whisky. The casks used include Bourbon barrels, Toasted American Oak barrels, Sherry butts, refill Hogsheads and American Oak casks.
Official Tasting Notes
Charcoal smoke, lemon oil and pine contrast with a rich palate of heather honey, grilled grapefruit, and sweet ginger snaps. Dark chocolate soften into melon and prosciutto with a warmth of chilli spice.
