Wild Turkey Distillery is located in Lawrenceberg,
Kentucky, where the distillation of whisky there traces back to the mid-19th century. The Ripy family produced and sold bourbon there to several wholesalers, including Austin Nichols.
The brand's name, is said to have originated from an anecdote involving Thomas McCarthy, an Austin Nichols executive, who shared some of the bourbon with his friends during a turkey hunt. They enjoyed the whiskey so much that they requested more 'Wild Turkey,' and the name stuck. In 1942, the Austin Nichols company began bottling and distributing Wild Turkey bourbon, establishing it as a recognisable brand.
Today, the distillery is under the ownership of the Campari Group, which acquired the brand from Pernod Ricard in 2009.
A sweeter side of Kentucky Bourbon, the exceptionally smooth American Honey combines deep-rooted tradition with a decidedly modern twist. Master Distiller, Jimmy Russell, created the first honey flavoured bourbon recipe in 1976, and launched it as Wild Turkey Honey Liqueur. He always believed in the ability of American straight whiskey to play well with a variety of deep, sweet, bold flavours that mirrored its own.
