The Victorian boom in Scotch made them curious about blended whisky, so they decided to experiment. In 1888, using fine and rare malts, they succeeded in creating what was considered to be a superior to all other blends - The Antiquary. Named after Sir Walter Scott’s gothic romance novel, redolent with family secrets, stories of hidden treasure and hopeless love.
Today, Antiquary continue the Hardies' passion of curiosity and invention. Seeking out the finest whiskies and inspired by the complexity and nuance of flavour imparted by rare casks, they curate, blend and marry with the same attention to detail. They produce a range of premium blends, using Highland and Speyside malts with Lowland grains. They have an unusually high malt content of 40%, and their whiskies benefit from long marriages in fine oak casks from France, Portugal and Spain.
Antiquary 15 Years Old is a blend of fine whiskies, married in Red Wine Claret Casks from the Bordeaux region.
Official Tasting Notes
Nose - Mahogany, polished leather, pipe tobacco, candied orange, grilled peaches and cloves.
Palate - Rhubarb, tamarind, raspberry coulis and vanilla.
Finish - Medium with a warming fruit jam.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
