John Ross established Balblair Distillery in 1790 on the estate of the Rosses of Balnagown, located in
Edderton, Ross-shire. In 1824, his son Andrew joined him, and the family continually operated the distillery until 1894. The company changed hands several times over the years, and owned today by Inver House Distillers, who acquired Balblair in 1996.
The Balblair collection is intriguingly complex and satisfying. They have captured the intense esters at the start of the spirit cut to give the whisky the core characteristics of apricots, oranges, spices, floral notes and green apples. The heavier oils and lipids at the end of the cut are also captured, giving leathery, nutty and full-bodied characteristics.
Matured in American Oak ex-Bourbon and double-fired American Oak casks, bringing elegant complexity and warmth. In the fine balance of fruit, spice and sweetness, this bottling encapsulates the gentle charisma of the Highlands. Elegant and approachable, this is the defining expression of Balblair Distillery, one to which all others refer.
