Glendronach Distillery, located near Forgue in the Scottish Highlands, was founded in 1826 by James Allardice. It quickly gained a reputation for producing high-quality sherried whisky using Spanish Oloroso sherry casks. After Allardice’s death, the distillery went through several ownership changes. Walter Scott purchased the company in 1852, with the family controlling it until 1920.
William Teacher & Sons acquired Glendronach in 1920, integrating its whisky into their blends. In the 1960s, the distillery modernised by installing steam heating and expanding from two to four stills. After being mothballed in 1996, Glendronach reopened in 2002 under Chivas Brothers. The BenRiach Distillery Company acquired it in 2008 and revitalised its focus on high-quality single malts, before selling it to Brown-Forman in 2016.
A superb richly sherried single malt, matured for at least 12 years in a combination of the finest Spanish Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks. The use of PX has resulted in a little sweeter whisky, like a good quality chocolate, with rich dried fruit flavours. This is a rich and fruity single malt, natural colour and bottled at 43%, the Glendronach 12 year old is a sweet, creamy dram.

Colour - A deep amber-red gold.
Nose - Sweet, creamy vanilla, with hints of ginger. Spice mulled wine and pear.
Palate - Rich, creamy silky-smooth. Warm, rich oak and sherry sweetness, full mouth feel, raisins and soft fruits. Spicy with medium length and a dry finish.
Finish - Long, full and firm, slightly nutty.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
