Craigellachie Distillery was established in 1891 by a consortium including Alexander Edward of Aultmore fame and Peter Mackie, the latter of whom is also known for his work with White Horse Distillers. Situated in the town of Craigellachie, which lies at the confluence of the Rivers Fiddich and Spey. The distillery benefits from the rich, mineral-laden waters of the area, contributing to the unique flavour of its whiskies. After multiple ownership changes, Bacardi now owns Craigellachie Distillery, integrating it into their Dewar's portfolio since 1998.
Known for producing a heavier, more robust style of whisky, characterised by a distinctive sulphury note due to its use of worm tubs in the condensation process. This old-fashioned method results in a rich, meaty spirit.
The Mossburn is from the owners of the Torabhaig distillery on the Isle of Skye. The Vintage Casks range are a collection of Single Malt Scotch Whiskies each issuing from a strictly limited and select batch of casks. Each numbered release will only ever yield a finite number of bottles.
Mossburn distilled this bottling of Craigellachie in 2007, bottling it in March 2024 at 16 years old. It spent the first 15 years in a Refill Hogshead, before being finished in a Marsala Wine Cask. The use of Marsala Wine Casks has created a full-bodied, rounded, and fruity dram. A well tamed whisky with distinct nuance, bottled at the cask strength of 52.4% ABV.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
