Filey Bay Single Malt Whisky is made at the Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery, situated at Hunmanby between Scarborough and Bridlington, not far from Filey. Launched in 2016, the distillery is a collaboration between farmer and brewer, David Thompson and Tom Mellor. Having been friends for several decades, the duo shared a dream of creating a Yorkshire whisky. But one that doesn’t just replicate Scotch.
With the help of renowned whisky expert Dr Jim Swan, David and Tom debuted Yorkshire's first ever single malt whisky - Filey Bay. Inspired by the bay that is in sight of the distillery, Filey Bay is an exciting addition to
English whisky. A true field to glass distillery, they use barley grown at their farm and distills their spirit on both copper pot and column stills.
Filey Bay Flagship - Marrying Strength is Spirit of Yorkshire's classic Flagship bottling with the dial turned right up! 'Marrying Strength' refers to the 'sweet spot' between the cask and bottle. Before the normal Flagship bottling is reduced to its usual 46%, it spends time at the specific strength of 51.1% to harmonise. This slow, controlled marriage allows the flavours to settle and intensify, delivering a bolder version of the spirit. Aged in ex-Bourbon casks from Kentucky.
Official Tasting Notes
Bold with heightened and enriched characteristics of the classic Flagship flavour profile. Honey, vanilla, citrus and caramel.
