Filey Bay Single Malt Whisky is made at the Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery, situated at Hunmanby between Scarborough and Bridlington, not far from Filey. Launched in 2016, the distillery is a collaboration between farmer and brewer, David Thompson and Tom Mellor. Having been friends for several decades, the duo shared a dream of creating a Yorkshire whisky. But one that doesn’t just replicate Scotch.
With the help of renowned whisky expert Dr Jim Swan, David and Tom debuted Yorkshire's first ever single malt whisky - Filey Bay. Inspired by the bay that is in sight of the distillery, Filey Bay is an exciting addition to
English whisky. A true field to glass distillery, they use barley grown at their farm and distills their spirit on both copper pot and column stills.
Filey Bay IPA Finish explores the possibilities of their unique position as farmers, brewers and distillers. This bottling is a unique release as the field to bottle whisky is finished in casks that previously held IPA from their sister company, Wold Top Brewery. They've finished their light and fruity single malt in ex-IPA casks, creating something completely unusual, distinctive and absolutely delicious.
This bottling brings their farm, brewery and distillery together in one whisky. The result of forward-thinking, progressive maturation techniques and the passion the distillers have at every stage of what they do.
