Four Roses Distillery is located in Lawrenceburg,
Kentucky. The Spanish Mission-style distillery was built in 1910 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Originally established in 1888 by Paul Jones Jr., legend has it that Jones chose the name "Four Roses" to honour a Southern belle who had gifted him a corsage of four roses, each representing a cherished sentiment.
The distillery quickly gained a reputation for producing high-quality bourbon. By the early 20th century, it had become one of the top-selling bourbons in the United States. Like many distilleries, Four Roses was forced to halt bourbon production during Prohibition (1920-1933). Instead, it shifted its focus to producing medicinal whiskey, which was legal under Prohibition laws.
After Prohibition ended, the distillery faced several challenges. Changes in ownership and branding decisions led to a decline in its reputation in the United States. In the early 2000s, Four Roses underwent a revival under the ownership of Kirin Brewery Company. With renewed focus and investment, Four Roses reintroduced its bourbon to the U.S. market, focusing on emphasising its unique blending of ten different bourbon recipes, each with its own distinct flavour profile.
Four Roses Single Barrel bourbon stands as a testament to the individuality of each barrel, hand-picked by the Master Distiller, and boasting a robust 100-proof strength. It achieves a pronounced yet elegant flavour that is worth savouring.
