Old Pulteney Distillery is situated in the town of Wick, on the Northeast coast of Scotland. Founded in 1826 in an area of Wick called Pulteneytown, and named after the 19th Century minister of fisheries Sir William Pulteney. Wick was, at the time, the centre of the countries Herring Fishing Industry, with over a thousand Herring Drifters working out of its harbour. A perfect town for a distillery.
During the early days, the distillery was only accessible by sea, due to a lack of conventional roads. It remains one of the most northerly on the Scottish mainland and today, the distillery is owned by Inver House Distillers.
Matured for 15 years, this is an intense, yet balanced and smooth, single malt. Balancing two different sides of the flavour spectrum, this single malt marries these perfectly, whilst also reflecting Old Pulteney's coastal home and unwavering influence. Spice and sweetness unite in this naturally rich amber whisky to celebrate rich flavours. Yet lighter, more refreshing coastal notes show another side of this single malt.

Colour - Rich amber
Aroma - Intense yet balanced. Bursting with rich dried fruit, ripe apples and citrus, with honey sweetness and a generous chord of creamy vanilla. Slightly chocolaty and floral in the background.
Taste - Fragrant spices and Christmas cake, with layers of chocolate and a distinct dark toffee sweetness. A hint of salty sea air on the finish, a clear connection to the influence of the sea on this single malt.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
