Glenburgie Distillery, situated near Forres in Speyside, was established in 1810 as 'Kilnflat'. The distillery operated under this name until 1878, when it was renamed Glenburgie. During the 19th century, Glenburgie went through several ownership changes, before being purchased by Hiram Walker, a Canadian distiller known for its blended whiskies. Glenburgie is best known for its role in the production of Ballantine’s blended Scotch whisky. Its single malts are a key component, providing a fruity and floral character that is essential to the blend's profile.
Gordon and MacPhail are independent bottlers and whisky merchants based at Elgin on Speyside. They buy spirit, from various distilleries, when it is first made, and mature it in their own casks. The family that owns the company, the Urquhart family, are now on the fourth generation of whisky maturation, bottling and distilling experts.
This whisky is part of their Distillery Labels range, these are often from distilleries which historically did not have their own bottling, only selling in cask mainly for blending. Gordon and MacPhail mature spirit from Glenburgie in a mixture of first fill Sherry Hogsheads and refill Bourbon barrels in their own warehouses, before bottling when they deemed it ready.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
