Glendalough Distillery, founded in 2011 by a group of five friends passionate about reviving Irish craft distilling, is located in County Wicklow, Ireland. The founders aimed to revive Ireland’s rich distilling heritage while innovating with local ingredients and traditional methods. Meaning ‘Glen of Two Lakes’, it is situated in the Wicklow Mountains just south of Dublin. It began by producing poitín, Ireland’s original distilled spirit, before expanding into whiskey and gin. It styles itself as
Ireland’s first craft distillery.
Glendalough Wild Botanical Irish Gin features wild botanicals foraged throughout the year in the Wicklow Mountains. Geraldine Kavanagh, the distillery’s full-time forager, collects fresh botanicals and delivers them to the distillery within hours. The ingredients undergo small-batch, slow distillation to extract delicate botanical flavors.
Described as capturing "a year in every bottle," the gin reflects four seasons of foraging in the wild landscape of Wicklow. The bottle’s design honors the valley of Glendalough, resembling something gathered straight from the forest floor.
A woven pattern at the base of the bottle represents the handwoven basket used daily by Kavanagh. Embossed botanicals wrap around the bottle, while subtle design elements reference Glendalough’s ancient past, including the monastery archway, seven churches, and the deer stone. These details create a hidden map for those familiar with the region’s history.
