Glenlivet is an iconic distillery situated on Speyside. It is one of the best selling single malts in the world, owned by Pernod Ricard, the whisky has been very popular in America for a long time. The Gow family moved to the Spey valley during the upheaval following the 1745 Jacobite uprising. They changed their name to the English equivalent Smith. As in common with many of their neighbours they made whisky, without the bother of getting a licence for the still. When it became viable for a small-scale distiller to afford a licence in 1824 George Smith was one of the very first distilleries to acquire a licence.
For this bottling, Glenlivet wanted to create whisky with a tropical feel. They finished a portion of this smooth whisky in barrels that previously held Caribbean rum. The result is a well balanced and exceptionally smooth whisky.
Official Tasting Notes
Colour - Dark amber.
Nose - Sweet notes of pear and red apple meet a fabulous tropical twist of ripe bananas in syrup.
Flavour - Bold, smooth, and tropical.
Palate - Rich caramel toffee notes, followed by flavours of tropical fruits.
Finish - Well balanced and exceptionally smooth.

Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
