Glenlossie Distillery is located in the Speyside region of Scotland, near the town of Elgin. Glenlossie Distillery is located in the Speyside region of Scotland, near the town of Elgin. Established in 1876 by John Duff, a former manager of Glendronach Distillery, Glenlossie was built during a period of rapid growth in the Scotch whisky industry. Duff was an ambitious entrepreneur who later went on to found other distilleries, including Longmorn and Glen Elgin. In 1919, Glenlossie merged with several other distilleries to form the Glenlivet Distillers Ltd. This group was later acquired by the Distillers Company Limited (DCL) in 1930, which eventually became part of Diageo, one of the largest spirits companies in the world.
Part of the Flora and Fauna range, this 10 year old bottling is smooth and rounded with delicate fruity influences. Sweet, lightly fruity, well balanced, with just a whiff of smoke. This herbal and floral style single malt whisky is a fine example of a 'Top Class' Speyside.
Official Tasting Notes
Body - Medium.
Nose - The first impression is vinous, like a well-used cocktail cabinet. Through this comes a light sponge-like aroma, followed by fruity notes. Then the nose closes somewhat, with a promise of pear drops. With water, the reduced nose is estery, solvent-like and fruity - a fruit salad including oranges, apples, plums and pears. There is a hint of coconut milk and a fugitive scent of sweet tobacco. With more water, the nose becomes mossier, with a whiff of matchboxes. The last might indicate a thread of smoke.
Palate - Sweet; a good balance of primary tastes, with some pleasant acidity. With more water there's a very slight hint of smoke.
Finish - Dryish, with some light chocolate notes and a light, malty aftertaste.

1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
