Glenrothes distillery, located in the town of Rothes, on Speyside, was established in 1879. It uses water that runs through the Glenrothes estate the distillery. It has its own on-site cooperage where they check each cask is up to their standards. Most of Glenrothes is matured in Sherry casks (Both European and American oak), lending a richness to the spirit.
The 12 years old has been matured exclusively in Sherry seasoned casks, creating a deep flavour to be savoured.
Tasting Notes.
Nose- Light, with banana and vanilla
Palate- Banana, lemon and melon with sweet cinnamon spice.
Finish- Long and sweet, melon and a light spice.
Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
