John Jameson founded Jameson Distillery in Dublin in 1780. Originally a lawyer from Scotland, John begun distilling in Bow Street in Dublin. John Jameson's commitment and dedication to producing high-quality whiskey undoubtedly formed the foundation for the brand's success. One of John's four sons, John II, who took over the business in 1805. His son, John III, took up ownership in 1851.
Over the years, Jameson became known for its triple-distillation process, which contributed to the smooth and mellow character of its whiskey. The Bow Street Distillery grew in size and reputation, becoming one of the largest and most influential distilleries in Ireland.
In 1966, Jameson joined forces with Cork Distillers and John Powers, creating the Irish Distillers Group. By 1975, the decision was made to halt operations at Bow Street and relocate to the New Midleton Distillery.
Jameson Caskmates aims to highlight the influences in flavour gained when you use different casks. The distillery swapped casks with a local craft beer brewery, filling the Stout beer-imfued casks with Jameson whiskey.
Official Tasting Notes
Nose - The whiskey exudes an initial aroma of freshly cut hay, complemented by a crisp orchard fruit character – green apples and pears, with a twist of lime zest. Mild pot still spices appear, deepening from green tea to hazelnut and milk chocolate.
Palate - The Irish pot still's typical initial sweet mouth coating quickly combines with the subtle touch of hops and cocoa beans from the beer cask finish.
Finish - Long and sweet with milk chocolate and butterscotch.
